Work to restore water in Khayelitsha prioritised

Work to complete emergency repair work in Khayelitsha is ongoing. Water and Sanitation teams hope to restore water to residents as soon as possible.

This weekend, the City’s Water and Sanitation teams carried out emergency work to replace a faulty valve, which affected the water supply in the greater Khayelitsha area. Following this work, teams encountered a new challenge where two additional valves were found to be faulty.

Teams are still on site attending to the matter. While significant progress has been made, due to the complexity of the work during the final stages of the repairs, it is taking longer than expected. The team is currently grinding the AC pipe to allow the ranger to be properly fitted.

Arrangements were made to have four water tankers available in consultation with the local ward councillors. Residents are encouraged to contact their local ward councillors for the exact locations of the water tankers as well as for information related to their arrival. Some of the tankers are also arriving from outside the City, which could result in a possible delay.

‘The City understands that this has been a trying time for residents but we are doing all we can to resolve the matter as urgently as possible. Our staff have worked tirelessly throughout the weekend and inclement weather to ensure that water is restored as quickly as possible,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.
